Kids and Dogs A Professional Guide To Helping Families edition by Colleen Pelar CPDT CDBC Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews
Great Info!!!
This book is "user friendly" for trainers and parents. I love the positive, down to earth information and directions. The author makes it easy for trainers to help families and does it with simple directions. I loved the fact this book addresses child of all ages, including teenagers.
Outstanding aid to assist families. A little redundant, but sometimes we all need the review. Very helpful to become more aware of signs of stress for dogs and when address, decrease the potential for injuries.
If you work with families and dogs, this is an important resource to have on your shelf. Dog bites can be prevented, but only if those of us who know and understand what is going on between dogs and kids can share our information with the families we work with. This book lays out wonderful systems to categorize and organize how we help families and how we set realistic boundaries for what families do with their kids and dogs.
I wish all dog people and every parent would read this book. I see the scenarios described over and over and over... from both sides - dog people who don't understand children and parents who think they understand dogs but don't (at least not enough).
It is not a quick check list kind of book - it gives enough context and background to make it easier to understand the whys.
It is well written (in how things are said). I think it is easy to read (in what is said) but I live in both worlds (lots of children and lots of dogs) so it may be easier for me than for most.
The author references various schools of thought concerning dogs but is not hard core to any of them. "There is no 'one size fits all' solution" but there is such a thing as reasonable expectations.
