From the Supernatural Case Files of Sherlock Holmes
Many of Holmes's more fantastic cases have yet to see publication, since their grotesque and outré nature would have stretched the reader's sensibilities beyond any normal boundaries. They are, in a word, unbelievable, and I have held these cases in abeyance at Holmes' request to protect both his reputation and my own small credibility as narrator.
But the time has come to reveal them, per Holmes's instructions. I follow these instructions faithfully and humbly, and let my readers judge if we have done wrong to withhold them for as long as we did.
- John H. Watson, M.D.
Holmes and Watson encounter sinister dealings with an American ship from the town of Innsmouth comes to England in pursuit of an implacable revenge.
Sherlock Holmes The Adventure of the Innsmouth Whaler The Supernatural Casefiles of Sherlock Holmes (Audible Audio Edition) Christian Klaver William Kirby Books
This is a reasonable story, but you really should have read "Sherlock Holmes and Count Dracula" first. Yes, it's THAT Innsmouth. The followers of Dagon are in evidence. And Watson is a Vampire (see S, Holmes and Ct. Dracula first). It is a decent story saddled with too many horrors. We do see Holmes at his sharpest, but things seem to happen TO him rather than the other way around. It's one of those stories that I was ambivalent about but had to read it for some reason. This is more narrative than story, but it works well that way.
In the Canon, there is one and only one possibly supernatural story, which Holmes dismisses as "...depths beyond the range of human understanding."
It's a pleasant enough read, and well constructed. Give it a try, the line of stories in "the Supernatural casebook" improve with each release, and in time should be worth another two stars.

Sherlock Holmes The Adventure of the Innsmouth Whaler The Supernatural Casefiles of Sherlock Holmes (Audible Audio Edition) Christian Klaver William Kirby Books Reviews
An enjoyable tale involving two of my favorite characters, Holmes and Watson, involved in an adventure in the genre developed by one of my favorite authors H.P. Lovecraft. I believe fans of Sherlock Holmes and H.P. Lovecraft will find much in this story to enjoy.
The Story was interesting but could have been longer. I found this Story to be interesting in that it gave Dr. Watson more of a Role in Solving the Mystery and didn't make him look like the Village Idiot. I would of gave it a 5 if it was linger and Fleshed out more.
just finished this read and I really enjoyed this author, topic a little goofy but well written.
Another delightful mix of supernatural horror and Sherlock Holmes, though likely more enjoyable for a reader well-versed in the history of Innsmouth, Massachusetts. Watson's point of view is once more impeccable, and Holmes' character depiction is, in my opinion, flawless.
Holmes and Watson doing battle with Dagon and Innsmouth whalers .... It's a good one if you like a Holmes and Lovecraft tie in ....
Again, as with "The Adventure of the Solitary Grave", I am very pleased with this short story. It was well written in the style of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, with a supernatural twist. I haven't read much by H.P. Lovecraft so I can't speak for the style or the content in that regard. What I can tell you is the story is worth reading if you are a fan of the original Sherlock Holmes tales. I am very impressed with Mr. Klaver's writing and am hoping to see more Sherlock Holmes adventures from him. Thank you Mr. Klaver for another great tale.
I've loved the Conan Doyle Holmes stories ever since I got the complete collection as a gift when I was 11. I wouldn't call myself one of the real cultists/purists, but I do want to see anybody who ventures onto this turf get it right...and Christian Klaver does that. The manner of writing sounds and feels a whole lot like Conan Doyle. Plus, anyone who's read all the originals knows that there was an undercurrent of the outré -- teasing references to untold stories. Klaver has grasped this thread and followed it in a very entertaining direction. As I was reading, I felt that wound-up sensation in my stomach where is this going? Reaching the destination was satisfying(I admit to being entirely unfamiliar with Lovecraft's work, which may actually have been a positive). So I'll be checking out the other two entries in this series and finding out if Klaver has more planned.
